Since Dark Samus was officially announced I neglected to come back here and say “I called it”, so here’s something no one asked for. As you can see, heavyweights weren’t ever really my thing in Smash Bros. And as badly that I want this game, I’m still holding off on getting a Switch until we get a proper trailer for Metroid Prime 4. I will admit though that the Dark Samus Direct had me VERY tempted to go buy one, but I persevered.

   Back when Smash 4 was coming out I got really excited about Samus’s alt colors, since we’ve never had 8 color variants in Smash Bros. before. Seeing how Sakurai just dropped the Ridley bomb for the new game, I didn’t expect any more surprises Metroid related, but check this out. 

   I stumbled upon a video by GameExplain that actually gives us all 8 variants that are in the E3 build. Many of the limited character roster don’t have all of their 8 color options yet. Get this though… Samus does, and one of her skins has changed in a way that could be major news. 

   That 8th and final skin is black and… yellow. Not blue. We haven’t gotten a skin that looked like that since the original N64 game, and it just took the place of the Dark Samus looking one. This could potentially be evidence of a future Echo Fighter slot for Dark Samus, and I feel like freaking out. I mean, back in 2014 I voted for Dark Samus in the Smash Ballot, thinking that there’s no way Ridley would happen, but that maybe Dark Samus’s status as an Assist trophy could be reversed, just like the situation with Little Mac. If this Character Select Screen is foreshadowing what I’m pointing out, Metroid could possibly have 4 fighters representing the franchise.

• Join us and dozens of your other favorite companies like Etsy, Vimeo, Reddit, and GitHub to raise awareness with the Red Alert campaign being run by Battle for the Net. Just add this small widget to your Tumblr to let your followers know how they can contact their reps. It’s as easy as copying and pasting the small line of code right into the customize theme page on the web.
